Question:

Wasn't it rude for a woman to comment/criticize my voice when I wasn't even talking to her?

Yesterday my wife and I were coming out from seeing a movie. We were laughing and talking on our way to the car, when I started doing this weird, dopey sounding voice that always makes her laugh.

Out of nowhere this woman walking by herself goes, "OH MY GOD DO YOU REALLY TALK LIKE THAT?" She sounded totally digusted/mad/annoyed.

We were taken off guard for a moment, each of us thinking that she was kidding and maybe the other one knew her. Then I started laughing and said in my regular voice, "No, I'm just playing with my wife."

The woman imitates my regular voice (making it still sound dopey) and goes, "Oh yeah dude, I'm just playing with my wife. This is my normal voice. I'm really normal and cool".

We didn't know how to react, so we just kept walking. What the heck was her problem? Was she crazy? Kidding around? Just rude?

Wife said that because she was by herself, maybe she was lonely and either taking her embarassment at being alone at a movie our on us or trying to be friendly in a weird, twisted way.

  1. i think she knew she was out of line when you talked to her in you normal voice so she tried to make you look like the idot by stlill being way out of line she also could of felt like being rude.

  2. she  was  embarrased  and  got  defensive ,.  she was  way  out  of  line  and  she  knew  it  immediately.  or  liker  you  suggested  maybe  shes  just nuts

  3. Crazy B***h...there are some weird people out there.

  4. I think that was pretty rude of her. Nobody does that unless they know you. Maybe she was just grumpy or jealous. I would just say "what is your problem?" and ignore it.

  5. She was clearly rude.  You couldn't know for sure if she was crazy or kidding around.

  6. Evidently she has no social skills, which also explains why she attends movies alone.

  7. Yes, that was pretty rude. You should have told her (in a nice way), to mind her business.

  8. The woman was just being very rude, a lot of that going around altely. Just blow her off. Stupid t**t. I was having dinner at a restaurant with my mother and her cousins and we were all laughing and having a good time and this older woman came to the table and went on and on and on about how we had ruined her meal and disturbing the entire restaurant and no consideration blah blah blah and finally my cousin spoke up and told her to please leave our table. My mother and cousin and her mother were so shocked we never said a word. Later we thought of plenty of words! The point is, there are always miserable people out there and the best thing to do is ignore them.

  9. At the very least rude.

Perhaps she thinks her opinion matters to everyone. Who knows?

I agree she sounds slightly twisted.  Don't let it bother you, crazies abound.

  10. It doesn't sound like she was trying to be friendly.  She was rude and inappropriate and maybe even somewhat crazy. No normal person would approach someone to mock them as she did.  I'm not sure how you could've responded to her -- her doing that was just too weird...I'm just not sure what the proper response would've been!  Whatever you said might have stoked her attitude and she may have become worse in behavior.  Personally, I would've ignored her from the get go.   My husband would have probably told her to "f___ off."

  11. hahahaha funny story but id say she crazy. i dont know what part of town ur movies are at but dont go over there no more sounds like a crack head.

  12. Sounds like you met one of Catherine Tate's characters! You should have shouted back "BOVVERED?"

  13. She is just jealous that shes alone,

Us girl often make fun of guys because we like them alot or are just jealous. It may not come out the right way but its the truth. Or this lady is just stupid

  14. Definitely rude on her part. Don't worry about it. You playing around with your wife had absolutely nothing to do with the other woman, who stuck her nose in your business. Unless you were shouting obscenities while waving your willy around in public, I think she should've kept her opinions to herself.

  15. Possibly any or all of the possibilities you've mentioned are true.  But she was definitely rude.

  16. You should've told her to GET A LIFE

  17. Yes rude. And slightly weird. Poor mad mean woman at the movies. Imagine if there are people/children at her house when she gets home.I bet she is no fun to be around.

Imagine for a moment what it takes to be like that. Just walking, and suddenly turn on a stranger for something they said. Its a certain type of person. That's why we talk about being civilised. Or not.

We've all had this situation to some degree, and it takes you by surprise. You don't have an answer ready right then, but later, as you walk away, you think of plenty clever sharp things you could have said. Too late.
