Wasn't it sad, another shark attack?

Question

A fatal shark attack at San Diego beach called Table Top left one man dead, his leg severed below the knee. He was with a group of surfers, but they couldn't save him.

Yes it's sad. However, when people swim/surf in the ocean they are in the sharks territory. Therefore, it is more likely than not that they will be attacked.....that comes as no surprise to me. "Livin' on the edge" isn't all it's cracked up to be.

I have just seen it on the news, and it said it was both legs.

I just saw it on late evening news and it was a group of swimmers, the man was 66. He was training for a triathalon, I think, with about ten other swimmers. They had swam past the surfers when it happened. It was a quick attack, one pass by a large shark, severing both lower limbs. I hope I got the details correct. I am sorry for his family and friends in their loss.

It is very sad and tragic. It's always shocking when you hear about something like this, but it shouldn't stop you from enjoying the ocean. Shark attacks are very rare, and when they do occur, only a percentage of them are fatal. You have more of a chance of getting struck by lightning in the US than being the victim of a shark attack. My prayers are with the family what a tragedy. I thought they had huge nets out there to protect the people!!

I heard about that.  I feel badly that the man lost his life, but, in any ocean, gulf, river, etc. every body of water there are things lurking in there.  Frankly I think it's irresponsible for a person to go into any body of water not understanding that something may happen to them.

I hadn't heard that, but they are dangerous little beasties. It is sad when there are deaths.

I haven't been back in the water since the movie Jaws was released.

I would be just toothpicks for one anyway.

The surfboard usually confuses the shark to believe it is another animal other than a human.  Yes it is sad.
