  1. SR71 Blackbird.  Holder of all speed records.  Top speed classified.

  2. Actually... when they flew the SR-71 from California back for the last time they did it in 57 minutes according to the new book that just came out.

  3. The Lockheed SR-71 blackbird can/could fly at 2,500 MPH just a little over an hour LA to NYC. It was retired but is kind of in semi-retirement.

The experimental plane the X-15 could fly Mach 6.0, something between 3000 and 4000 MPH. it was never mass produced. It was part of the Space Race.

  4. The Concorde is the fasted but put out of commision in 2003.

  5. concorde did it in two hours and thats the fastest commercial jet ever made.

  6. Concord was the fastest

  7. Yes and no. Some people above called out the SR-71. True it is fast but not in an hour. The SR-71 burned so much fuel during take off it had to refuel shortly after because of its inefficient design at low speeds. Then it needed to climb to altitude and descend. By the time that all took place you are well over an hour. Rumor has it that the an SR-71 made such a trip (west to east coast) and it was timed at just over 2 hours from hangar to hangar. when you take into account taxiing, rollout, refueling, flight, approach, landing, and taxiing again it had to have been moving fast!!
