Wasted Tears looks to conquer over a mile once again in the First Lady Stakes at Keeneland
The 6-year-old mare Wasted Tears is going to start at Keeneland for a third time in her career, and will be looking to bring joy to her connections after going 2 of 3 starts at the racecourse before they ship her off to Texas the next day after the Grade
1, $350,000 First Lady at Keeneland on 8 October.
Owner/trainer and breeder Bart Evans have take her talented mare coast to coast and accepted challenges throughout the country, and at Keeneland Wasted Tears have a 50% record.
The daughter of Najran, out of Wishes and Roses by Greinton, Wasted Tears opened her Keeneland account with a win in the Grade 2 Jenny Wiley Stakes on 10 April, 2010, over a distance of 1 1/16 miles, and covered the distance in 1 minute and 40.86 seconds.
She participated in the same year in the Keeneland’s fall meet, running in the Grade 1 First Lady Stakes 2010 edition, and finished a disappointing 5th under jockey Rajiv Maragh who guided the filly to victory in the Jenny Wiley Stakes.
The , then, 5-year-old mare couldn’t handle traffic and the distance of a mile, while Proviso won the mile long race in 1 minute and 34.81 seconds.
This year, Wasted Tears hasn’t been stuck at one place looking to settle and get some victories under her belt, she has been on the travels all along this season.
She kicked off the season on turf in the one mile long Grade 3 Ouija Board Distaff Handicap at Lone Star Park, and won the race on 30 May, 2011.
Headed off to Arlington Park for her next start, to participate in the Grade 3 Modesty Stakes  over at 1 3/16 miles, where she finished fifth.
Next for her was Del Mar, and much was expected from the talented mare, as she had to contend with the likes of Cozi Rosie and Malibu Pier, who both defeated her at about 1 1/8 miles of turf, leaving Wasted Tears to finish second.
The mare likes the mile distance and she will definitely be a threat on the massive field of Grade 1 First Lady.
