If we all need to make less waste.

Would it be better to start on the shop shelves?

Don't we need to be able to recognise wasteful products for what they are?

I mean who really needs half of the things they buy?

  1. You know that's how our country survives, right?  As long as people are still buying things then people still have jobs.

  2. Maybe I am being a dim wit.....,  I have always wondered why we dont crush our waste and send it in to space.......  rather than landfill.....??   Even in the event of it falling back to earth would the atmostphere not burn it up on re-entry ??

  3. Not to sound rude, but the people who make and buy the products need it. I think the answer of transforming the way waste breaks down into energy is a more likely way to make an impact. It makes more sense than halting the economy.

  4. As far as we know this planet is the only place we can live,,and we are h**l bent on destroying it,,,we don`t really inherit the Earth from our fathers, more like we should be custodians of it for our children,,

  5. You're right.  Industry will always adapt to the market.  The second we begin thinking about who makes what instead of what we WANT and what we need is when the economy is really in trouble.  We're about 90% service in the US now anyway.  We really don't make anything anymore, so...

  6. You could start by not buying a new computer if yours breaks down. After all do we really need a computer to chat on Y/A and play solataire? Seems wastefull to me. We live in a consumer driven economy and people have to make things for us consumers to buy so no I totaly disagree.

  7. The shops themselves have a lot to answer for with regards waste. I was thinking about this as I put my shopping away yesterday.

I mean, when you buy a swede, cucumber or a cabbage, they don't need to be shrink-wrapped.

The tomatoes I bought were in a plastic tray, wrapped in cellophane.

I bought some McVitie's digestives and they were selling two packs, individually wrapped, then wrapped together, for less than the price of 2 single packets. Why not just sell the single packs but make a reduction if you buy 2?
