  1. Wow this question (and same scenario) is getting asked a lot these days! Let me tell you what I've informed some other people:

Hey! I actually answered a question similar to this a while back.

Coasters are perfectly safe. I used to be freaked about coasters, but then I realized that you're strapped in and can't be dropped or thrown off the ride. Coasters give you the opportunity to do some fun and insane things, yet remain totally safe. So give it a try and go ride them.

One thing that I think REALLY helps is to run the coaster names through http://video.google.com . Check the Great America website (http://www.sixflags.com/greatAmerica/rid... ) for the names of all the rides and then search for them on Google Video. For example "great america iron wolf" gives you videos people have filmed while riding the Iron Wolf coaster. Watching these will give you a chance to pre-experience the ride so it's not such a scary mystery when you ride it.

I've never personally ridden the Big Dipper but I looked it up online and it appears to be a wooden coaster. While I enjoy these coasters, they are known to usually have certain "quirks" (such as an overly-bumpy ride) that turn some people off. Most of the newer, steel coasters offer a much more intense and smoother ride.

Lastly, since it's a school trip, I'm sure there are some of your friends who feel the same way. During one trip to Magic Mountain we started off with a group of over 20 and began with the tamest coaster we could and worked our way up. After a couple rides only me and 3 people were left to go on some of the absolutely crazy coasters, but the other groups knew their limits and spent the rest of the time enjoying rides together. There's a good chance that if you start with a large group of your friends, you'll be able to find a sub-group that matches your same coaster "skill level."

    Hope that helps!

  2. I get headaches when I go on any roller coaster that has a very deep dip or goes upside down.

So I firmly tell my friends I like curvy coasters (rather than the high dippy kind).

Sometimes I get peer pressure from friends telling me to "suck it up,"  I give them "the look" and tell them that different people like different things.

I still like kiddie roller coasters and the "next level up." I have never liked the deep dip kind.

Another answer showed there was a web site to see the roller coaster view.  I'm going to use that for future trips.

PS After viewing some of the videos on utube, I think it's a SANE person that is scared of those roller coasters.
