You want the best, well then you are going to have to pay for it.  There are free versions of AV's out there that are very adequate.

Do not get suckered into getting the paid versions of either of these.  The free versions are very good at protecting you from Viruses, however that is all they do.  They will not adequately protect you from Spyware.  Getting the paid versions of this software will completely protect your computer, but like Norton and McAfee, they will eat up resources and slow your computer.

Now for the best. And here they are in order of preference....

NOD32 from Eset.  It is easy to use and will protect your computer from viruses.

Very comprehensive, but the built-in Firewall can confuse some people if they do not know how to set up a Software Firewall.  Very good software

They all have free trial versions....

Now all this being said, NOD32 is the only one that is specifically set up to protect your computer from Viruses.  The others all are presented as an all-in-one protection, meaning Firewall, AV, and anti-malware.  I do not recommend this.  If you want a good AV, then that is what it should do.  Forget about Firewalls, and anti-spyware.  there are other softwares (or hardware) that will do that for you.  Trying to get an all-in-one is very resource heavy and will eventually slow your computer.  This is the reason that Norton and/or McAfee does not make my list.

In my opinion, NOD32 is the best AV on the market.

AVG 8.0 is the best virus protection, to me. It works great and protects me just fine.

Also don;t forget about your spyware protection, as you could be infected with spyware and not virus;s. And for that you need a program like Spybot, that's what I use. It's a free program and it works just plan awesome.

eset nod32 and kaspersky are the best products. norton is bloated so it slows your computer down. also the firsts guys site isnt legit. av companies pay for there spot on the top as they become affiliates.
