  1. Dad's going to have to go down to the police station, and file charges against this guy, and try to get his truck back.

  2. Are you sure you're not still drunk?

I could barely understand what you wrote well enough to figure out what you're asking.

When you sell a vehicle, it doesn't have to have insurance or a plate.  It just needs a title, and a current emissions test.

Otherwise, it would be interesting to see what happens, because it's not like he really stole the truck, it was gone the next day.

But that's what you get for selling a vehicle on a check, and not waiting for it to clear.

  3. Sounds as if your Dad is out the amount of the check, I'm not sure why your dad should have to provide plates or insurance on a vehicle that he has sold though ? To get a GOOD answer, Please re-word this question in understandable English and use spell check.

  4. Aside from screwed up typographic errors, it seems like your dad is only liable for the bad check.  Once the proper paperwork is signed for the sale, the vehicle officially belonged to the neighbor.  I see that there was a bad check involved.  Your dad can simply file a police report about the bad check and then take him to court.  If it is not documented, your dad will be fighting a lose/lose battle in court.  It is unfortunate that the neighbor got taken down for a DUI, but he is responsible to taxes, tax, and registration of the vehicle following the sale.  A major problem that you mentioned is that the tags were out of date.  This is a problem that your dad will have to correct at the DMV before he can legally sell it.  He has to turn in the license tags before he can sell it.  Other than that, your dad has to wait to see about getting the money back.  One possible circumstance is that the check would be voided and your dad would simply get his truck back, while the neighbor would have do pay his debt to the State for the DUI.  There are a rash of different events that could happen, but the first one is that your dad needs to do a police report about the bad check and the sale of the vehicle to the neighbor.
