There are many variables and there is no one best company. Not every company writes in every state.

Almost all companies have both a comprehensive plan and a basic plan. The comprehensive plan with the "worst" company may be better than the basic plan with the "best" company. As far as premium one company may be better if you're over 50 while another may be better if you are under 30. Another company may be better if you have kids. The plan that's best for you now may not be best if you move to a different county.

Visit a local agent that works with all the major companies. The agent can find the best plan for your situation and budget. They can explain what you get and, more importantly, what you don't get with any particular plan. There is no extra charge using an agent.

Well..that is a loaded question. I have Blue Cross Blue Shield out of Minnesota...which isnt much good if you are healthy, due to the fact that there is a 1000 dollar deductible, and u have the 20 dollar co-pay each time, and it doesn't pay that well on meds. I guess it all depends on what you want to pay out of pocket for a premium each month. I used to have Blue cross blue shield out of north dakota, and that paid very well on my maternity bills. Watch out for "insurance plans" that are like 150 a month...as they are just savings plans...not really an insurance, they try to get the hosp. to adjust your rates...or pay u a fixed rate for something.
