well. everyone else has a personal choice of what they think is the best company for laptops. i do to but i think you should go look at reviews on laptops. they are posted al over the web. just go to google and type in review...(the laptop you want reviewed or the company)...and thats bout it. believe me a professional opinion is better than a personal. but my personal is dell. i support them 100%!!. they got good technical service. their laptops are always inexpensive and they work really well. i have one. its an inspiron 1525. it does more than i need it to do. most people dont need a super computer laptop like a apple mac book pro. if you are looking for a dependable product with a good warranty and good tech service dell is the company for you...it is for me..hands down. btw...everyone has a good and bad personal opinion of laptops..some people expect to much from simple laptops. also......ofcourse some laptops mess up quick but thats a mistake any company can make...its just a simple defective product and some people think dell is bad cause they have a (very few btw) defective producs. well i hope this helps!...ps. the dell xps laptop is a really good laptop to...im thinking about giving my girlfriend my inspiron and gettin the xps myself..so give that some thought...they new, sleek and exactly what anyone is looking for when it comes to quality and a good fast proccesor and performance!..

Dell used to be good but not any more [unless you do light things such as email, net surfing, paper writing]

Apple is good if you don't know much about computers

but I recommend a sony, Hp, and Acer

well i have an hp and it kinda sux...every so often my computer screen goes black/gray and i have to put it on hibernate an turn it bak on...but then maybe i just got a bad piece.......my sister has a dell and she doesnt like it but everyone else i kno like dells.....so i'd prolly go with a dell or an apple.....

HP and Apple make the best laptops. I own one of both so it just depends on if you would rather have XP or Leporad. I would totally go Apple

Apple is an amazing company overall. Their phones, mp3 players, desktops and laptops are all phenominal, customer service is amazing. If you want a dell laptop, I suggest getting the Macbook Pro. It is TOTALLY worth the 2000-3000 bucks that you're going to pay for it. If you can't afford it, don't opt for the regular Macbook, because it's $1000 and it's really not that wonderful, nothing compared to the pro and you can probably get much more RAM, BIGGER SCREEN, etc for that price, from another company.

I suggest companies like HP, Lenovo, and even Toshiba if you're planning to use it A LOT. I mean tons of pictures, music, videos, gaming, etc. If you're really not a multimedia type of person, and you plan to use it only for web browsing, word processing, etc, go for a dell, gateway, or even hp, since it's super affordable no matter what.

I suggest you stay AWAY from Compaq, and Sony. Sony is okay, but it is way overpriced, and you likely won't get your money's worth.

Dells have the highest replacement rate of any computer manufacture period.

any company, you can build your own if you prefer.

I seen other countries, they build their own laptops and computers, even dell does the same.

But in england, they all have their own models.

All are similar.  I personally happen to be very impressed with Lenovo's build quality and a few extra features they include... like the "titanium roll cage" structure, the spill "resistant" keyboards with channels to channel off spilled water/drinks, the quality of the keyboard is top-notch...  but they aren't the "prettiest" laptops necessarily :)
