  1. The beauty of Rennsaince art lies in the fact that it was such a contrast to art of the Medieval period - which was stiff, formal, and represented a belief that this world was only a preparation for the afterlife. (look at the mosaics of Ravenna). Renaissance art expressed a new approach, that which reflected the ideas of the time (look up Humanism) which centered around the fact that man in this life was the center of the world. That is why one sees such naturalistic depictions of figures and scenes. Like Michelangelo's Pieta -showing Mary mourning for the Dead Jesus; or the statue of David, or the painting of the last supper, or Raphael's Fresco of the School of Athens (which reflected Renaissance admiration for the philosophers of the  past). . I can't think of any reason why the public at the time wouldn't find this type of art much more accessible and nearer to the own lives. The only people who perhaps wouldn't have liked it, would have been the clergy who still believed that the afterlife was more important than the achievements of people in this world.
