It's a guy thing.  Sports is their world to conquer.  Watch an athletic event and see how much crotch scratching and spitting and slapping on the behind they do.

They want to excel at something...anything...and don't want "girls" getting involved.

A lot of it has to do with confidence.  We mature so much earlier than they do.  They need to cache of sports to boost their feelings about themselves.  When they see us out there performing as well or better than them, they lose that crutch.

Whatever you do, do not stop being good at sports, education, or anything else for some guy.  The one who appreciates you for the whole you is the one you want.
