I was pulled over for driving without my headlights on and received a ticket. What is the best thing i can do as a juvenile? I have a court date on the 15th, do i just go to court? What am i to expect for fines? What's the best option to do in my situation?

  1. You can find out the fine before you have to go to court. If you enter a plea of guilty and agree to pay the fine in full you may not have to go to court. Your best bet though would be like a majority of responders said. Go to court and tell the judge it was an oversight and apologize. You may get lucky and not even have to pay a fine. It always helps to be respectable and address the judge as "your honor" or sir or maam when you answer their questions. Be clear with your answers i.e. "yes sir" or "no sir" and never say you didn't know, they hate that.

  2. I'm amazed that wasn't just a fixed fine.

In any case, go to court, say you're sorry and it was a simple oversight as a novice driver.  But you promise to be more careful in the future.

Whatever you do don't NOT go to court.  Then decisions that are legally binding can be made and enforced without your involvement.  You never want to ignore a court date.

  3. Take responsibilty and pay the fine.  You can pay the court

clerk before the court date.  Its a minor offense so it will likely

be cheap.  Call the clerk and ask how much it will be.  In some

states you can avoid a court fee if you pay in advance.

  4. Just be honest with the judge and tell him what happen and if this was your first time two things will happen, 1. nothing but a stern warning from the judge or 2. you might be able to take a defensive driving course.

  5. were there no working headlights on the car, or had you just forgotten to put them on?? As for the fine you may recieve i have no idea, but i would just be apologetic to the judge, if it's a first time offence you should get off lightly.

  6. you should ask for proof from the police that your lights were turned off.....you're not supposed to prove that your lights were on....THEY HAVE TO PROVE THAT YOUR LIGHTS WERE NOT TURNED ON! and if they have that on film always make sure to ask them for their technical inspection for the apparatus with which they prove that you were breaking the law! it's not rude of you to do that, it's your right!

  7. Tell them you just got the car and low on cash... couldn't afford to buy headlights. Apologize.

  8. go to court on the date, the judge will let you explain yourself, many get uptight and dont do well getting their point across. everyone makes mistakes. explain to the judge your side, even if you are found guilty--it helps
