Wat do you think of teaching myself how to play an musical instrument??

so I wanna learn how to play the guitar and piano but there is no where around my area where they can teach you how to do it and my neighbor has been teaching himself and he sounds pretty good, and last night I checked in guitar center and they have different type of dvds and books that teach you how to play the guitar and piano,so has anyone actually tried or is trying or knows someone who tought him/herself to play the piano and guitar by using a book or dvd?? if so what was the name of the book or dvd or what do you recomend me to do?

  1. That's pretty ambitious. I would start with one instrument then move on to the other. You might want to start with piano. I am biased towards the piano. I took lessons for a year. That's all I could afford. I've been teaching myself from then on. There are plenty of great books out there that will help you. Start with one book and give it a try. It will be hard starting out but it will get easier. I can attest to that. Just keep practicing every day.  


  2. You can, I did it somehow, but I always had a teacher somewhere to correct the things i was doing wrong. The "teacher" can be anyone that you respect as a player, and make you think "i wanna do that".

    anyway, it is too difficult to do it alone. Find others in your same situation and discuss it. Best of luck!
