I was on the Kentucky Derby site http://www.kentuckyderby.com/2008/contenders and saw where it said Off the Trail and it listed horses names. War Pass was on the list. I was just curious in what this ment.

  1. Off the Trail means that the horse is no longer being considered a Contender for the Kentcuky Derby or whichever big race that he is "off the trail: from.

For those interested, I can not find question opn Nicanor but here are pics.

  2. When it says "trail," it means the path to the Derby.  It's referring to horses who are doing preps with their ultimate aim toward the Kentucky Derby.  Horses who are "off" the trail are horses who are no longer aimed for the Kentucky Derby for various reasons... so those horses will not be running in the Kentucky Derby.  Some of them may have turned out not to be very talented (Majestic Warrior was taken off the trail because he needs to mature a little bit... he's not up for the Grade I competition yet), others have injuries.  In War Pass's case, he suffered a mild fracture when he ran in the Wood Memorial.  As such, he will miss the Derby and return in the fall to make a try in the Breeders Cup.

  3. will not be running in the triple crown....
