  1. There is a change in the phase relationships among the three output voltage waveforms. It is the same as exchanging any two wires. Any three phase motors that are connected to the generator will reverse direction when the generator reverses direction.

Label the three output terminals, A, B & C. Observe the three waveform voltages A-B, A-C & B-C on an oscilloscope, or just assume what they might be and draw them. Then exchange any two of the the labels with each other. That illustrates what happens.

  2. It rotates in the opposite direction.

    .

  3. When you change the direction of rotation you will change the phase sequence. this will reverse the direction of any 3 phase motors connected to the alternator supply.

Imagine the alternator rotating clockwise and the phases are represented by the points of an equilateral triangle stood on one side as you would view a pyramid. The top angle = A the angle on far right = B and the angle far left = C Now Imagine the alternator magnet is a rectangle with its pivot or center in the center of the triangle so as it rotates its magnetic field would induce voltage in coils at positions A B and C

The phase rotation for clockwise is A B C If we reverse the direction to counter clock wise the phase rotation is A C B
