Aussies live by sport.  We are so good at so many, that it is impossible to say which is the best.  Among the best are:

Football - Aussie Rules, League, Union, soccer

Swimming

Surfing

Netball

Basketball

Cricket

AFL for sure, they pack crowds of 20,000 to 50,000 each game. Nothing any of the other sports can match. It's australia's past time and will always remain australia's best sport. Rugby league is only big in Sydney and Queensland but thats going to change. Just because you live in one of these rugby league areas, in which i do live in Sydney, u cannot say honestly that AFL doesn't have the biggest supporter base. A club like Collingwood has over 40,000 members, thats more then the 15,000 people who turn up to watch a game of NRL, and thats two teams playing!

ALF,it's our thing, some other countries are shocked at the full on contact. although i'm not a big cricket fan, we did have a cricket team before we had a government, that has to say something!
