  1. Air blast has a jet of air to extinguish the arc when the breaker opens. Air break is simply a breaker with nothing only air to insulate. Other breakers may have vacuum or gas (SF6)

  2. Circuit breakers are designed to switch off the current in a circuit when a fault occurs. The fault could be an overload or a short circuit. As the contacts inside the circuit breaker separate an arc is formed between the contacts. This arc needs to be extinguished as quickly as is practically possible and it is the method of extinguishing the arc that gives it its name

Air circuit breaker relies on air only at normal atmospheric pressure

Air blast has a high pressure air system that forces air into the area of the arc to effectively cool it much faster and hence extinguish it

Oil circuit breakers have the contacts immersed in oil and the oil extinguishes the arc

Magnetic air circuit breakers have a magnetic field adjacent to the contacts and when the arc forms the magnetic field attracts the arc into a special arc extinguishing chamber
