  1. Rugby League split away from Rugby Union in the early 1900's because the poorer rugby players wanted to money for playing an ameture sport. So they made a new style of Rugby that we now call Rugby League.

    The Differences are:

    There are 13 players on the playing field at once in League.

    There are 15 players on the playing field at once in Union.

    In Rugby League you are limited to 5 tackles.

    In Rugby Union you can be tackled as many times as you can hold onto the ball for and they are called phases.

    In League you are allowed 11 interchanges per game.

    In Union you are allowed to subsitute players but once a player is substituted they cannot come back on.

    Points in League are awarded like this:

    Try = 4

    Conversion = 2

    Penalty Goal = 2

    Drop Goal = 1

    Points in Union are awarded like this:

    Try = 5

    Conversion = 2

    Penalty Goal = 3

    Drop Goal = 3

    In both games you can be sent off for the remainder of the match or for 10 minutes for bad conduct except in Union you are given a yellow card if you are sent off for 10 or a red if you are sent for the rest of the game.

    In Union the length off the in goal area is larger than in league.

    In League when the ball goes out along the sideline you have a scrum.

    In Union you have a lineout where the hooker throws the ball into play.

    In Union the scrums are contested and powerful.

    In League the players do not push in the scrum.

    Those are the main differences between Rugby Union and Rugby League.

  2. Rugby Union blows way more penalties...

    Alright!  Besides the number of players in union there's no offside (you can go up to the ruck line), whereas in league most defenders must retreat 10m after a complete tackle.

  3. tries are 5 points field-goals are 3.Also there is no dummy-half and when its out they throw it backwards

  4. rugby league has 13 players while rugby union has 15

    the site below would go into more detail of the differences between the two.

  6. well basically if u dun wanna know all the technicalities of it...

    union is basically faster than league ... instead of stopping every time to play the ball like you do in league in union u have to get the ball outta there and keep playing on....but its easier for the players to loose the ball in union than in league .

    the scrum and line drop outs are different as well....scrum is important in union...if u s***w the scrum up in union it could mean that u've basically handed the other team a goal. while in league it doesnt really matter if ur scrums are c**p coz there a whole lot faster.

    union is played more by the upper class of society while league is more for the working class.

    personally i think that league is a whole lot more simple to pick up than union and prefer league to union.
