effect of forest degradation on this earth would be deforestation itself.  Since man ran the world we have been cutting down trees to raise livestock and buildings.  Another cause would be acid rain natural (volcanic eruption- and man made emissions CO2, NOx etc).  Volcanic eruptions (pyroclastic flows and lava takes out forests) forest fires natural -lightning or man-made.  There are many ways forests face degradation.
