  1. In the old DOS days, this key was used to "print the screen."  Whatever appeared on the screen was sent to the printer when you hit that key.

    Today in Windows, it is used to capture the screen to a file. It takes a picture of the screen and then you have to paste it somewhere (Edit, Paste or Cont+V)

    If you press PrintScrn by itself, it takes a picture of everything on the screen.

    If you press ALT+PrintScrn it just takes a picture of that one window that is active at that moment.
