  1. The outside isn;t the reason and a cat suddenly losing weight is a sign that there is surely something wrong. You need a vet and do not wait too long

Cats should be fed canned foods.

Nutrition since there are so many bad things out there is very important to your cat’s health

Contrary to what you may have heard; dry foods are not a great thing to feed a cat.

Please read the label on what you are feeding? What are the ingredients? Do you know what they mean? Is the first ingredient a muscle meat like chicken or is it meal or other things? Learn what meal and other things mean here.

Dry foods are the number 1 cause of diabetes in cats as well as being a huge contributing factor to kidney disease, obesity, crystals, u.t.i’s and a host of other problems. Food allergies are very common when feeding dry foods. Rashes, scabs behind the tail and on the chin are all symptoms of food allergies probably from the grains. Constipation? Dry food, not enough moisture. Blockages? Again not enough moisture in the food and you are risking something serious. People on this board say feed fiber but this is a cat not a dog and cats are obligate carnivores unlike dogs an they don't eat cereal and don't need fiber.

The problems associated with Dry food is that they are loaded with carbohydrates which many cats (carnivores) cannot process. Also, Most of the moisture a cat needs is suppose to be in the food (Cats are not naturally big drinkers) but in

Dry, 95% of it is zapped out of dry foods in the processing. Another thing, most use horrible ingredients and don't use a muscle meat as the primary ingredient and use vegetable based protein versus animal. Not good for an animal that has to eat meat to survive.

You want to pick a canned food w/o gravy (gravy=carbs) that uses a muscle meat as the first ingredient and doesn't have corn at all or grains  at least in the first 3 ingredients if at all. Fancy feast is a middle grade food as it uses a muscle meat as the first ingrediant. 9lives, friskies whiskas are lower grade canned but still better then dry and wellness and merrick upper grade human quality foods.

Many foods are not mentioned here but if you read the labels you wiull know if it is qualaty. The price offers no guideline.

The optimum food to feed cats has no grains whatsoever, cats have no use for them and many have trouble processing them as well as the carbs. IBD is another disease that is rapidly becoming common amoung cats because of the inappropriate diets being fed.

Also, dry food is not proven to be better for teeth. Does a hard pretzel clean your teeth or do pieces of it get stuck? Why do people constantly repeat this old wives tale and put teeth over the organs like the kidneys?? (I have no clue)   http://www.felinefuture.com/nutrition/bp...

  2. Call your vet and see if there is another issue.  It may not just be he's not interested in eating.  He could be sick.  Do not give the cat any milk of any kind, cats can not tolerate pasteurized milk.  Usually cats don't care about trying new food, and some cats can't stomach new food.  My cats love switching between Fancy Feast Gourmet and Friskies Feline Favorites (I keep two separate bowls in two places in the house)...and I stopped giving them wet food, but that was a personal choice.  If your cat is deemed healthy by the vet, he or she can recommend the proper food.  You do not have to buy it from them (they make money on selling what is in their office and usually cost a lot more than you really need to pay), ask them what other food they recommend that you can get at the store that works just as well.  A reputable vet will give you an answer and not push their office-food on you.

  3. You should variate between dry and wet food. If you just feed them dry food, it's not very good for their digestive system. Also, give him some cat treats to put some weight on him. You might also need to take him to the vet and get a vitamin supplement that you can put in his food or water.

  4. It sounds like your kitty is fine, however since you mention that you let him outside, he could have gotten worms from a stray cat. Not a big deal. Just go to a local retailer like Wal-mart and pick up some liquid dewarmer. Add the recommended dosage to some milk. Not a lot of milk cause milk isn't good for cats but it will get him to drink the warmer, unless you want to give it to him the hard way with a dropper. The food shouldn't have anything to do with him getting smaller unless he has became allergic to something in the food like the food dye. I had a dog that, that happened to. I would go ahead and dewarm him and try some new cat food for a few weeks and see how that goes. We personally alternate our cat foods, plus soft food isn't the greatest for cats. So many people think it's healthy for them but it's not. We only give it to our cats once a week as a treat. The crunchy food is what helps keep their teeth sharpened and healthy. Plz call ur local vet, I'm sure they will say the same as my vet. So hon if you need anything else, plz email me.
