  1. To paraphrase the NRA: Guns don't win shootouts, people do. Since the guns are basically the same, the shooter would make the difference.

  2. i dont know alot about it but the new .408 they came out with is amazing watched them take a 1-1/2 mile shot on a body sized target and hit it no problem thats pretty good in my book!!!

  3. believe it or not, this is the same rifle. the Remington 700 is the civilian version of the military m40A1 and m40A2. the only difference is that the M40's have a longer barrel, are heavier, and have better rifling. so, needless to say, the M40 would prevail. kills have been confirmed at well over a mile with the M40 (i'm not saying that the 700 couldn't kill at a mile, but it would be a stretch).

  4. Kind of a bs question considering...

A: The m40 uses a 700 action so thats like asking if a 700CDL is better than a 700BDL...it's the exact same rifle with a few minor differences.

B: A 700 could be built up to better specs than an m40 or it could be left stock.

C: 90% of shooting depends on the "nut" behind the trigger.

To answer the actual question, m40 is just a military designation for a version of the 700 so technically  the 700 always wins. :)

  5. the one with the best scope and best shooter...oh and dont forget the spotter,a sniper aint S@@@ with out a good spotter!!!

  6. The outcome will depend much more on the trigger man than the platform

  7. meh, ther are so many factors to take into consideration that it would take all night to get into this argument. and not having shot both of those (ive only shot the m40) i dont know.

  8. none of them they are inanimate objects.

  9. You could give some Steve Know-little the top-rated, most advanced sniper rifle of the future and give a trained sniper some old bolt-gun you bought at a yardsale for $50, and the sniper could probably shoot circles around Steve. There is no way to say one gun would win a shootout every time as it is just a tool made for a task.
