Ubisoft still has news pouring through despite the fact that E3 is all done and dusted by revealing who the developer of the Watch Dogs game is.
The 2012 edition of the Electronic Entertainment Expo concluded a few days ago with titles such as The Last of Us, Beyond, Resident Evil 6, Far Cry 3 and Tomb Raider on everyone’s minds but two games that absolutely stole the show, or Ubisoft’s show at least,
were Assassin’s Creed 3 and Watch Dogs.
Starting things off with Watch Dogs and it turns out that the game is being developed by the same studio that brought Driver to the current generation of consoles, Ubisoft Reflections. The studio was praised for bringing something fresh and new to the Driver
series with San Francisco and the game did reasonably well in terms of sales as well as critical acclaim.
At the same time the studio will be collaborating with Ubisoft Montreal on the project as well. Giselle Stewart, Ubisoft’s General Manager, stated: ”(Ubisoft) Reflections has been attentively watching the reaction to Watch Dogs at E3. The studio is very
excited to be working with Ubisoft Montreal on this new IP, and is currently expanding its Newcastle-based team developing for the title.”
Watch Dogs blew audiences away with its stunning visuals and slick gameplay as the game seemed to be a perfect mix of Hitman, Assassin’s Creed and Grand Theft Auto while still managing to carve out its own identity as well.
In fact, the game looked so sleek that PSM3’s Dan Dawkins found himself saying, “Visually, it’s a step above probably anything on current consoles.”
That does nothing but add even more fuel to the ‘Watch Dogs is a next-gen console title’ and it would be a surprise if the game did not release on the next generation of Sony and Microsoft consoles when they are announced.
However, if the title is for the current generation of consoles then it seems that developers have finally unlocked the maximum potential of the PlayStation 3 and the Xbox 360.
