Ubisoft blew audiences away with their reveal trailer for Watch Dogs, which is a new IP from Ubisoft Montreal and it turns out that the game has been making a fair share of headlines.
Every so often the gaming world is treated to a breath of fresh air and a title that isn’t a sequel or prequel to a long running series. Amidst all the Far Cry, Assassin’s Creed, FIFA, Forza, Halo, Gears of War and Call of Duty sequels audiences found themselves confronted with Watch Dogs.
At first gamers did not know what to make of it but as the gameplay walkthrough trailer filled the ginormous screen every gamer had a reason to be excited by a title that seemed to bring something new to the table.
Watch Dogs is set in New York City and gamers will find themselves hacking into security systems, jamming mobile phone signals and controlling anything electronic they can find. The gameplay played like a mix of Hitman coupled with the open world sandbox experience of Grand Theft Auto with a touch of Assassin’s Creed thrown in for good measure.
The plot involves a virus that has caused a “huge blackout and eventually control of all public computer systems (have been) handed to a major corporation.”
The game had a next-gen feel to it and seemed as if belonged on the PlayStation 4 or Xbox 720, however Ubisoft has hinted towards it being a current generation title. However, at the same time the studio has been tight lipped when it comes to making any announcements as to whether or not the game will be making an appearance on the Nintendo Wii U.
Shigeru Miyamoto, the iconic developer of Nintendo classic such as Mario and the Legend of Zelda, was impressed with the title after he played the demo of the game at the Ubisoft booth.
At the same time, Ubisoft also confirmed that the game would be compatible with tablets, which would be used to provide players with extra options and features such as a map of the city as well allow players to monitor their friends’ games.
