Watch tv on my computer monitor?

I have a dell monitor just lying around. I was thinking of putting it to use. I want to use it as a tv. I have FIOS right now. So I need a tv tuner (right?) but anyways i have a usb tv tuner. Can or how I use the usb tv tuner and the cable box to watch tv on my monitor

you'll need some information about your cable box... if you need the cable box to watch cable(and you can't if you plug the cable to a cable-ready tv) you can't use your cable to tune in with your usb tuner.

if you can watch cable without the cable box(some cable companies do use that setup) you'll just have to buy a splitter(one goes to your tv or cable tuner and another for your tv tuner usb)
