  1. False - I doubt most people could tell you when Abe Lincoln died.  It's an old wives tale, more recently people have been saying that it's when JFK died.

The fact is that most clocks are set to 10:10 or 8:20 just because it's a symmetrical arrangement that looks nice.  The 10:10 is more common because the hands are pointing "up", like a more positive smile.

It also depends on where the clock company's name is on the face of the clock - it looks nice to have the name framed by the hands.

Lincoln was shot at 10:15 pm, by the way, but that's just a coincidence.  He died at 7:22 am.

  2. false

  3. true

  4. I have always heard the clocks are set to the time when Lincoln died.  I am 68 years old and I first heard this when I was in about the 4th grade in school.

  5. definitely not in the UK

  6. False.  If they are taking the time to set a clock it would be set to the correct local time.  I once worked at a watch counter and out of boredom reset all watches to the correct time, instead of the  time they were on.
