  1. All of you in Australia need to "touch wood" or as we say here in America "knock on wood" that you can see footy on television and discuss what kind of TV to watch it on.

Thanks to Andrew the Rocket Scientist, 99 percent of the USA still cannot see footy at all like we used to, week old highlights on the former Fox Sports World.

    Count you blessings.

  2. hay camp dog,id go the plasma mate because when it comes to big t.v's LCD cant compete (not yet any way),also Ive been told that 10yr life thing is a myth and that a plasma will last as long as a normal t.v.

L.G are rubbish and there is trouble with channel 9's digital signal compatibility with L.G plasmas (for some reason)

and on the gas issue -its no different than the LCD globes going out leaving you with black spots on your telly.

plasma are better for fast moving shows I.E the footy

only my opinion,i hope you get what your looking for.

  3. get a over head projector $3000 will get you a good one then get a hd tuner watch the footy in life size its the best

  4. i woulg go with a sony lcd

  5. I would get an LCD instead of Plasma, I'm pretty sure an LCD will last a lot longer. My oldies have a 42 inch Sony and its great, but you would have to pay a lot more than 3 grand for a 50 inch Sony.

Good luck, can I come round for a beer....will there be strippers?

Edit - I have heard exactly the same as Dave Sullivan, side viewing not great and life span bugger all. I'm no expert, thats just what I've heard.

Thanks mate, you actually win a prize for the 1 millionth ribbing I've had about us winning the spoon.

  6. Plasma's old news IMO.  I'd be going for LCD.

At that price you won't get the super brands but you might pick up an LG or Sony ... somewhere in that range.  I have an LG that I'm 80% happy with (remote doesn't work well)

Hitachi's good but expensive and up from that you have some real premium brands at $6000 to $20000.

I heard a rule of thumb that was interesting ... how far away you'll sit e.g. width of lounge room in metres times ten equals the largest screen you should have.  E.G I have a 4.2 metre wide lounge room so 42 inches is as big as I should go.  Go larger and you have to 'scan' the picture and that's hard work.

It never matches being at the ground, but it beats staring at the squeeze box.

  7. Firstly in my opinion, stick with the Plasma. Its all up to you, but with my experiences and knowledge and feed back from customer's Plasma's are way to go.

I too have a 50" HD Plasma (Panasonic), I have had it for 3 yrs now, I love it and love watching footy on it....is bl**dy fantastic.I am now thinking about upgrading to a new True HD Plasma.

Here's what I think....... check out this site http://www.cnet.com.au/  and look at (check prices.)

You can buy a LG 50" Plasma for anywhere between $2300-$3000. But I wouldn't recommend buying LG.

Shop around and enquire about which is better for the price.

    FYI......Top 4 Brands

    Pioneer

    Panasonic

    Hitachi

    Sony.

  8. My husband was going to purchase an LCD when we went T.V shopping but we ended up with a plasma.

    Best thing ever!!!

With $3000 you can really get a good one and maybe some speakers to put around the room.

    Good Luck!!!!

  9. Plasma is the way to go for sport, especially footy. Make sure it is 100hurtz (some are only 50). Otherwise the movement won't be anywhere near as good- you'll get that shadowing look when they're running.

We just got a Panasonic 50inch plasma, and it is awesome. You can definitely get one of these in your price range. We got them down to low $2000's.

The tennis was incredible so we're hanging out for the footy to start.

LCD's may last longer (i don't know that this is true anyway) but for quality of viewing, especially with fast moving AFL, plasma is the only way to go (PS- I know i'm a chick but I love my footy and we did a lot of research!)
