Top man, Ron!! Once, down Kingsholme, we had a bunch of Man U fans who'd been chucked off the train and tried to get into the Shed! Ooh,hoo, ha ha !!

  1. rugby is a more inclusive sport because it allows players of all sizes, shapes and ages to participate effectively in a team situation and that is reflected in the crowd culture - all types are welcomed and the game is the focus.

Soccer players must have a certain body shape (smallish, thinnish boned) which is great for those body types and the players must have the ability to act seriosly injured when touched. The crowds are intensely committed to their teams only and the game itself is second to showing loyalty and getting one up on the opposing supporters, hence the violence and attraction for those people who are essentially anti-social, the soccer hooligans, who find a niche in the soccer culture through their violent tendencies and ability to drink, take drugs and swear for the entire games duration.

  2. was that a world record of phases in the 2nd half? 32 or 33 or something like that.

  3. Yes, they don't fall down on the merest touch, rolling in agony.

James Hook last week dislocated a finger...cooly walked to the touchline where the doctor 'clicked' it back into place, then carried on playing. A football player would have been rolling around in agony and would have been stretchered off.

  4. Although I live in Luton now, I'm from Llanelli and a great 'Scarlets' supporter.

Both teams are great teams, there are many things I prefer about the game of rugby over football, appart from the game itself.

Your right, they don't get paid obscene amounts of money, they don't cry and roll over when they get 'tapped', they don't kiss each other when they score.

I've taken my wife and children to a game without worrying about their safety, and stood next to fans from the opposite side with no problems.

Best of all, they have better songs, like Sospan Fach.

  5. Ron I don't know what you have with soccer fans. As you can see from my picture I'm a girl and love soccer. But I've never been afraid of going to the stadium - in Germany - on my own and surely would take my kids along when the time comes.

But I certainly wouldn't go to stadium in Italy with family or without because there's just too much bad stuff happening over there. But in most countries it's safe and you get some idiots everywhere.

You can't say which players are better because the games are just too different. Rugby requires other skills than soccer and due to the nature of the game the players are and look tougher.

But I'm with you on the points of acting and salaries which are far too high - especially for the younger players who get spoiled by them.

  6. Yes!!!!!! It's because they play with passion and not obscene wage packets.

  7. yes, they're far sexier
