Question:

Watching SG1, I was wondering would Daniel Jackson be considered a liability in the REAL military? ?

According to the programme, Daniel Jackson is wont to jump out and generally be a loose cannon.

How would such a person be treated in the military?

Would he be firmly kept in base where his talents would be best utilised, or would he be allowed to join the teams out in the field?

Thanks.

  1. First off, it's TV, it's not real.  But if it was, Jackson is a civilian and therefore not part of a recon team.  He would be back at a desk, not in the field.

  2. Daniel Jackson was a great asset to the SG-1 team, so they let it pass.

  3. They have doctors, lawyers, scientist etc in the national guard serving in Iraq and Afghanistan even on the front line.

  4. Eggheads need a lot of looking after in the field but can be an asset when their first hand experience helps to create equipment that works.

That can never be done at a desk alone.

  5. Actually I find Daniel Jackson a little refreshing.  The Daniel Jackson from the movie an the early seasons of SG-1 would b tightly controlled by General Hammond and Col O'Neil.  The fact is that even O'Neil was bit of a loose cannon himself and With Sam Carter and T'eal'c they made a good, no great, team.
