Question:

Watching the US Golf Open and am wondering if anyone ever blew a "gimme" on their putt?

Some players miss by just a hair and then look to the skies and practice the shot over, which to me looks like histrionics, but then they have a putt of a few inches and rather nonchalantly tap it in but imagine the surprise on their face if they boo-booed and blew it! Has anyone ever seen anyone do that?

  1. What US Golf Open are you watching?

The US Open is in June.

    The Masters is on now.

  2. Its worse when you do what Paul Casey did today in the final round of The Masters tournament.  He set his putter down behind the ball and without attempting to make a stroke the ball moved.  He had to incur a penalty stroke against himself even though he had not attempted to shoot the ball.

  3. I did it in a tournament when I was a teenager.

  4. Hale Irwin completely missed the ball on a gimme putt in an early round at the 1983 British Open and finished second that year.

He just casually walked up to the gimme putt, made an attempt to tap the ball in the hole and missed the ball. He called the one stroke penalty on himself.

  5. happens occasionally on the PGA tour

  6. Well last year during a tournament the ball was 2in away from the hole (this shot was for birdy) and i taped ever so slightly that it only went 1"!! luckeley no one was looking and i very cooly kicked it in! have you missed one?
