Water Chariots to row tourists to London Olympics
In a recent announcement relating to the London Olympics it has been revealed that Royal Marines that suffered injuries while serving in Afghanistan will be given the opportunity to sail tourists to venues of the 2012 Olympics during the event.
Peter Coleman, the initiator of the project has got the wheel rolling by purchasing a total of 28 boats for the purpose. Coleman explained his idea as follows: ‘Travelling to the Olympic Park by barge will be a wonderful experience. At 4mph it’s never going
to be the fastest route, but it’s full of character and interest.’
Coleman has named the company dealing with the project as the Water Chariots. The marines will be ferrying tourists across the Bow Back Rivers which curves along the Stratford area. The river is being used for the purpose of the transportation of material
that is needed for the construction of the Olympics site.
The idea of the marines sailing the boats is also being welcomed because it is expected that it will bring more tourists as well as the local crowd to the area. Not only that, it is expected that people will be positively affected and use the water ways
to commute to the Olympics location.
The Olympic Delivery Authority has stepped up and provided a lock that is for the sole purpose of facilitating travel along the river.
The Olympics Games are coming to the city of London for the third time next year. After having hosted the Games next year, London will become the first city in the world to have had the pleasure of playing host to the Games three times. The first time that
the Olympic Games were welcomed in the city was in 1908 while the second time Londoners enjoyed the prestigious sporting event was in 1948.
London has been having some difficulty with creating a positive image for the event after the riots that recently engulfed the region cast doubts in the hearts of the people who plan to pay the city a visit next year for the Games. However, efforts made
by people such as Coleman will add positively to the image of the Games.
