Water Pressure Very Low, please help.

Ok Our water pressure has been very low for the past year or so. I mean really low. I takes 10 seconds just to fill a small cup up. It's only this low in the kitchen and one shower. Any clues? My cousin fixed it for us one time and it took him like 1 minute to fix, but he refuses to tell us what he did. Please help if you know.

My home is very old and all the pipes and stuff are in the basement.

  1. could be calcium/mineral build up.  Check w/a hardware store to get some caustic solution to pour in there, then check out renting a water softner which will eliminate this esp. if you have hard water.

  2. tell that bitchh you want it fixed now! haha

  3. if it is only low in two separate areas, they may be connected ( i.e. come off the same branch pipes in the basement) or they are clogged up simultaneously but separately. The latter option is more likely. remove the aerator on the kitchen sink. that's the "Screen thingy" on the end of the spout. then try running water through it. You can clean it out or just buy a new one. Most are universal size. It might also be the shut off valves under the sink that lead to the faucet. turn those all the way to the left and try the faucet. If they already are all the way to the left, turn them on and off a few times. For the shower, remove the shower head and turn on the faucet. If it comes out sufficiently forceful then you just need to clean or replace the shower head.

  4. You must have an air lock somewhere in the piping that needs to be vented out. If you cannot find out where the vent is, the

best bet is to call a plumber.
