  1. It's right on Michigan Avenue, in the dead center of the shopping district. The bean is about a mile or two south (as is Buckingham Fountain), and Lincoln Park Zoo is farther north. (not within walking distance) The lake is a few blocks away, and the Chicago river (with cool boat tours) is only about... 10 blocks away, I'd say. Water Tower is primarily a shopping area, though. They give carriage rides right across the street from it, too. Be sure to go to the Hancock building. There's a restaurant, bar, and viewing deck up top. You can get easily from Water Tower to the Bean, Buckingham, etc. with many buses that run right down Michigan Ave.  Take the 151 bus south and it takes you down State Street, another shopping area with a bunch of cool old theatres, and ends up at Union Station where you can take trains anywhere you like. Chicago's a cool town. I lived there for the last 10 years. Have a great trip!

  2. It is on North Michigan Avenue.  It is very close to the John Hancock Building.

It was built in 1869 and was one of the few public buildings to survive the Chicago fire of 1871.

It is said by some to be haunted.
