For a day-long trip I was told to bring a floating bag (for cash, camera)...but can I bring water, food, other staff? How do you secure them/tie them?

  1. Your easiest answer is to call the rafting company and ask.  Guide company rafts often often have metal frames that have coolers (depending on if you are paddling or if you will be in an oar-powered raft.)   Some companies make specific lunch stops and some even provide lunch and / or snacks.   If you're out for a  whole day, they do not expect you to go without food - check the brochures or websites for the trip you signed up for.  They should cover this stuff pretty clearly.

For water bottles, etc.  Ask them if they will have a drag bag for drinks.  They have heavy duty mesh bags that everyone's drink bottles go into - the bag is tied to the raft and dragged behind the boat.  The cold water keeps the drinks cold.    Otherwise, you can put a Nalgene bottle on a carabiner and attach it to the boat near your seat.
