Question:

Water bottle for my 2 gerbils?

I just got 2 gerbils and have outfitted their tank w/everything they need, including the water bottle. My question is, how low should the nozzle/dispenser to the water bottle hang? Obviously it needs to be above the bedding, which it is. It is at mouth level if they are on all fours. Is this too low? Should I move it to mouth level if they are standing on hind legs?

  1. Try both ways and see which way they seem to like more.

  2. they should be on their hind legs when they drink

    they can drink it easier

  3. I don't think it matters too, too much. I've had it both ways for my gerbils. Just keep in mind that they may try to bury the water bottle. If bedding hits the little ball in the nozzle, it can cause the water bottle to leak and soak the bedding.

I think it may be easier for them if the water bottle is at mouth level when they're standing on their hind legs rather than having it at mouth level when they're on all fours. It may just be harder for them to crouch down to drink it. I would recommend you just try both ways and decide which one works best with your gerbils.

  4. I put it for my pets, in the middle. So, about 1 inch higher than you have now. I have a hammy and a cavy. :)

  5. watch them drinking from it and if it looks like it is too low or too high then adjust it to the right height. :) i suggest moving it up a bit so they are on their hind legs
