Question:

Water damaged cell phone... what to do next?

Hi, long story short my phone was damaged by water. I dried it out and after taking the battery out, dipped it in purified water to remove impurities, and then dried it again. I got the phone to a stage where it could recall old photos, texts, #s, etc. but it could not get a signal (it could do bluetooth).

This leads me to believe the antenna was damaged. I plan on getting a new c**p phone for a few months if this one is dead and then upgrading to something better once I renew the contract.

Can I just bring my phone into a store (I use sprint) and get a new phone and my card transfers over with all my old names and #s or is there something more complicated I must do to transfer all the info over. Thanks for reading.

  1. ugh, that happened to me too.

badnews: it all depends on ur contract. yenno the warranty , like theyll fix it , it just depends on what happened. if ur warranty includes ur phone getting wet then they can just fix it perfectly. if not, u cant do anything bout it. oh and theres a chance that ur sim card coulda got fried even if it still shows contacts. oooooh btw ; uh , yenno , idk if all contracts are like this, but if u cancel early on one u have to pay. idk how much u have to pay though.

goodluck, hope u do better than i did. im stuck w/ my phone >:|

  2. You can either get a new phone or if you have insurance you'll b all good =]

  3. Warranty does not apply to this situation, as the person above me says.  Warranty is in case of manufacturers defect.  This is an "at fault incident".

What does apply:  If you have ERP insurance on your account ($4 a month), then you can call Asurion insurance at 800.584.3666, and place a claim. Its a $50 deductible and they mail you a new phone.

As for the other side: if you bring it to a store and tell them its liquid damaged, you have 2 options.  Your first option is pay for a phone outright; which is seriously expensive.  The cheapest phone Sprint carries is $169 outright.

Your second option is dependent upon the length of time you've had your phone.  If you've had it at least 12 months, you get a $75 discount off your new phone.  If you've had it for 22 months you get $150 discount, plus any instant savings / mail in rebates offered.  Basically new activation price.

    Hope this helps!

  4. if you have insurance you should be able to take it into a sprint store and they should replace it
