Water filtering and boiling?

At my house, we take the tap water, put it through the Brita filter and then boil it.

Is that taking anything away that is beneficial in the water?

  1. No.  That's taking things away that aren't beneficial.  Good job!

  2. no just bad stuff

  3. No, not at all.

Brita filters are real basic. They only remove enough stuff to improve taste and color. They really do not improve any other health related contaminates.

Boiling water will only kill any living organisms in it. It does not remove anything. In fact boiling water lets off steam which is pure water. This now means that any contaminiates that are still in the water, since Brita hardly does anything is now more concentrated than before, making it potentially more hazardous than it was before. Boiling water should only be done if your local government says there is something in the water and recommends it.

What you need is an actual purification system. They better ones actually purify the water not just filter it. They remove health related contaminats that Brita won't. They often even remove the living organisms too.

I recommend to people to use eSpring purification systems. It is the highest rated system with Consumer Reports, the NSF, and WQA. Only a distillery can get water cleaner. It is so good that the Extreme Makeover Home Edition used it in a show.

The system costs more than a Britta but since the filters work for so long the cost per gallon of water is actually cheaper than Britta. Plus you won't need to spend the time and extra utilities to boil water.

It is only sold through private distributors so you need to ask for it if you have any interest.

  4. seems like a pain in the *** for a glass of water
