ok i have a 5 month old with my ex-boyfriend we dated 2 1/2 years, well today when i went to pick up my son from his house, he had just woken up from a little nap and i pick him up, his sister tried to give him a bottle of water, i kinda snapped and said firmly no, he doesnt drink water. i didnt want to be rude, but my son only drinks formula right now...i do feed him 2 meals of baby food mixed w/ rice cereal or oatmeal a day..but he has his bottle every 3-4 hours. i seriously do not want my son getting water right now. am i right? how do i make sure he isnt getting things he shouldnt right now, i know i am not the only parent but i do care about his nutritional needs more, any advice?

  1. OMG! You need to chill honey! Your son's parental side of the family loves him just as much as your side does! I am sure Auntie would never do anything to hurt him! Many people give their babies water and it doesn't hurt them. My mom was a nurse and taught nursing school for 30 years. My daughter was breastfeed and supplemented with formula and guess what the doctor recommended WATER at less than 2 months! She's 7 and loves WATER! She'd prefer water to soda any day! RELAX! I am sure it must be very difficult to have your son out of your site but he needs to have both parents/sides of the family involved in raising him. You have to trust that when he is with that side of the family that they will take the best care of him possible. You were a part of that family for 2 1/2 years so just try to get along for your son's sake.

  2. Water is ok around the time you are doing solids, many parents put the water in a sippy cup around that time to help them learn to drink from the sippy cup.  I know the pediatrician told me it was fine just to make sure up until about 6 months old that the boys only got breast-milk or formula but that at meal times with solids that it is ok because they need to be introduced to a sippy around 6 months to get them use to it and make bottle breaking easier at 12 months.

  3. since water is a basic need to live im pretty sure its ok. and youre giving him regular foods anyways.

its just water lady. lighten up. and dont be so rude to people. she was just trying to help out!
