most sources say that distilled, or rainwater will do for a venus flytrap, but its summer now. I was told not to use tap water or drinking water, so what can I do to get the appropriate water the flytrap needs to survive?

  1. The water you use for your Venus Flytrap should preferably be rainwater, or distilled water. Tap water is full of chlorine and minerals that your plant's sensitive roots are unused to. If you must use tap water, let it sit for several days so that the chlorine has time to evaporate.

Distilled water can be purchased in a number of grocery and retail stores, usually in one gallon containers.

  2. You can find distilled water at almost any store.  You can use tap water in a pinch, but do not make a habit of it.  Using tap water will eventually make your plant sick.

  4. venus flytrap is a delicate swamp plant. Water straight from the tap has been treated to remove impurities. It may injure the plant.  Best use distilled water.
