Question:

Water fountain at my business: Is it working or not?

I just leased a commercial property. There is what appears to be a working water fountain. When I plug it in, I hear the compressor (or whatever it is that makes water cold) kick on. However, when I push the button for water nothing happens.

Is there any way to find out if the fountain works? Is there a valve that may be turned off to the fountain somewhere? I have limited access to the back of the fountain but no access to the front.

The rest of the water in my space is on, and there is only one master on/off valve to the water for the space, and it's on.

  1. If this is mounted on the wall, look under the unit and see if there is a valve where the water comes out of the wall. If so turn the valve counter clockwise to turn the water on. If this doesn't work, slowly unscrew the supply line. If water comes out there is an obstruction in the line going through the cooler. This might be blown out with an air compressor.

  2. the older fountains have kinda a manual button to press to get the water moving. the newer ones have switches behind the buttons to actuate the valves which may be shorted or something. there should be a removable cover to allow access. usually one whole piece and test can be done from there

  3. There should be a shut off valve feeding the fountain.  Follow the line from the spout backward to the water supply..

The other possibility is that the spout button needs to be replaced.
