  1. my three prefer filtered ice cold water from the fridge in the summer particularly when it is hot and tap water in the winter. i fill a jug and let it stand for a couple of hours before putting it down. but cats should get most of their liquid requirement from moist food. i have seen neighbourhood cats drinking from muddy puddlesand out of tree stumps.

  2. Either one....they don't need or require the chemicals and fluoride in tap water, so purified water is better - but it really doesn't matter.  What does the cat prefer?  Our cats won't touch water that was bottled - and will seriously only drink from the tap....but they love the ice we make from the fridge-purifier.  Cats are loveable, but very odd animals.

  3. My cats drink tap water circulated through a Drinkwell fountain.  Their water consumption probably quadrupled after I got the fountain for them, so I don't know if the carbon filter makes it taste better, or if they simply prefer water that has been kept circulating.

  4. Tap water should be okay because people drink from taps as well (assuming water in your area is okay). I only use Brita-purified water for my cats' Drinkwell fountain, though.

  5. Well it doesn't matter your already giving it great care by feeding it and giving it water. Cats weren't always pets they have survival instinct. They drink from lakes and streames in the wild so they will be fine. but if it makes you feel better you can give it purrified water.

  6. if nothing is wrong with your tap water, thne yes, it is fine.

if you are not drinking the tap water because it is bad to drink, then the cat shouldnt be drinking it either.

  7. There are a growing number of cat servants who believe that purified water is better.  Think about it - you don't drink it, why should they?

I forget exactly why this trend is growing....I think it has something to do with the minerals in the water building up in the cat's system and eventually causing problems.....quite possibly with the urinary system.

But regardless I think it's a good idea.  It really doesn't take any more effort to pour the water from a pitcher than it does from the tap.  And if it is a *little* more effort, aren't your cats worth it?

The reason many cats go for "dirty" water, such as from the toilet, has more to do with the fact that they can probably smell dish soap and the chemicals in the water in their bow..  The same isn't true of their food because it has a stronger odor than water.  Dirty water, like from puddles, may be dirtier but it's more of an organic dirt, so to speak.

That's why it's also important to rinse water (and food) bowls very thoroughly.

  8. its' just fine...

after all they drink from a puddle outside.
