Water heater temperature and pressure relief valve drainpipe?

There is a code that says the drainpipe going outside has to end within 4 inches of the ground. I forgot what code that is. My question is whether it can be above a patio, or whether it has to be above actual ground.

  1. If it is above the patio I think you would be OK.

    However, call your local utilities and ask them, to have the correct answer.


  2. it can go to the patio area just make sure it's not close to where people may walk if possible.  if the water heater would malfunction then this will relieve pressure from the water heater. the water temperature can be higher than 212 deg.or higher when if first come out of the pipe.  ground area would be best but patio is ok.
