  1. it's monitered by your local gov.  and the water/sewage maintence plant....I think.  It's fine to drink, but it tastes better in some areas than others.  I think you can find a lot of info here:

  2. I live in FL. Fifteen years ago, the water where I lived was well water and it was great. It took six or seven years of development for that water to go downhill and become undrinkable. Then we moved to a different house with city water hookups, and I thought, "Great, now it's going to be monitored by the city so it must be good." I tried drinking that water for about a month before I determined that, aside from tasting like dish water and smelling like ***, it also made me sick to my stomach. Then we got the water report from the city explaining what were "Acceptable" levels of certain contaminants and where our water had tested - quite near to being unacceptable.

And the situation in Pahokee, FL is ridiculous! They get their water from Lake Okeechobee and it is so bad that after someone showers with it, they can't drive for a few hours because they're too dizzy and lightheaded. The EPA or whatever has investigated and determined that pregnant women shouldn't bathe or even wash their hands in the water, much less drink it, because of the extremely high risk of birth defects. The town couldn't afford a treatment plant, so they tried to secede from the U.S. to become eligible for foreign aid... sick stuff.

  3. Tap water is fine, its less purified then drinking water tho, but perfectly healthly. The water companies purify ocean water and monitor it at water plants.

  4. Yes, in fact I am drinking that right now and is tastes very good.  The County of Maui monitors it, and the tap water here comes from various sources (wells I mean, it is rain water), depending on where you live on the island.
