Water in my ears! How do I get rid of it?

Question

I was taking a shower and I got water in my ears and I CAN'T get it out. I tried to shake my head sideways but for some reason thats not working. I would use a Q-tip but I don't have any left. I also tried to use a kleenex and shape it as a Q- tip but that didn't work either.

Do you have any suggestions?

My sister and I both worked at community swimming pools when we were in high school and all the lifeguards used the same trick for when they got water in their ears.

Make a solution of one part rubbing alcohol to one part water (alcohol by itself is too strong and will burn).  Gently pour it into the affected ear and let it sit for a few seconds.  Tilt your head so the water/alcohol solution can run out.  If it is just a bit of water (and not swimmer's ear which is an infection) it should run out.

I have no idea why this works but have known many lifeguards who swear by it.  Since I am prone to ear infections anyway, I used to put a few drops of the solution in my ear and then go through the process of waiting a few seconds and then tipping my head as a preventive measure.  I didn't get swimmer's ear a single time in the whole three summers I worked at a community swimming pool!

i had swimmers ear once and thats when water gets trapped in your ear and you can't get it out.  after i got eardrops from my doctor, my friend told me to stand on one foot,and jump up and down with my head tilted the next time it happens. i was taking a shower and i felt a little water, so i tried the trick and it worked! if it doesn't work for you, and you start having headaches, chances are you have it. :( good luck and hope i helped

it might be air (like after an airplane flight) so, plug ur nose, close ur mouth, and try to "blow" air, and it will come out ur nose
