  1. Smoke does not affect the barometric pressure directly but affects it indirectly by affecting the temperature.Details follow.

In passing through the atmosphere, the intensity of solar radiation diminishes considerably. Ozone in the stratosphere absorbs ultra violet porton of the sunlight.Absorption and scattering by the molecule matter such as dust and smoke and reflection from clouds,if present, all share in reducing the intensity of the down-ward moving solar radiation.Hence, smoke plays a part in reducing the incoming solar radiation over a place.Depending upon the solar radiation received over a place, the surface over that place radiates back long-wave radiation which heats the atmosphere above it by conduction.Depending upon the heat received by the atmosphere, the pressure also changes over that place. But this occurs on a small scale only.

  2. Hi Y'all!!!

Well I lit up a smoke to check this out and nothing happened on the Barometer gauge so I had another ten smokes and still nuttin' so beats me!!!!  All I deduced was that smoke rises vertically. I might try that smoke experiment out again after I shut all windows but I am not holding out much hope of a barometer change.

I think that air pressure would be increased by lots of smoke like in a bush- fire situation like it would be more dense wouldn't it? But don't quote me.

  3. not a lot.

it's a solid, not a liquid, and does not change the volume significantly.

however it does add a VERY small amount of weight, which would increase pressure.

on the other hand, it's dark/black, so it absorbs light, and to a VERY small degree heats the air around it, decreasing pressure.

    net effect is, not much.
