Water is still coming out of the pipe can I still weld?

I need to know if I can wel a copper water pipe though there is still water coming out.

  1. Normally you solder copper pipes and it works best if it is dry and clean. If there is still water the solders sets before it can bond. Also it might splatter and burn you.


  2. Copper pipe is highly conductive of heat. Make sure that any valves up stream of the water source are secured. Such as at the water meter. Insure you drain the water in the remainder of the pipe. Open valves down stream. As the water drains from these pipes it needs to be able to vent. So open both at a low point and the highest point. A wet dry vacuum cleaner can be used to speed up the draining. If the joint is above ground and in the house a soft solder can be used but if the copper pipe is outside and underground Grade III Silver Solder must be used and the pipe wrapped. Make sure that you use the proper flux and cleaning methods for the pipe.
