Question:

Water leaks?

I live on the top floor of a 3 condo building. Is it possible for water to enter through a leak on the roof and travel down a pipe that runs through the ceiling of the second floor unit? We recently had a bad storm and a water stain appeared in my unit in a bedroom and also in the bathroom of our second floor neighbors. Do you think they're related?

  1. definetly!

    ....especially flat roofs, are notorious

....anyroof pipe has flashing around it...over the years the tar around the flashing may peel away enough for wind and water to enter...then, voila!

  2. Yes. I helped a friend in a two story condo. Her downstairs neighbor said there was water coming from above. A plumber checked the apartment and found no leaks.

The next time it was raining and I was over there, I went into the upstairs bathroom and lifted the ceiling tiles and saw water seeping in through blocks in the wall above and running down into the apt below through gaps where the vent pipe went. The apt below had its plumbing vented through the apt above.

They had to go to the association to have it repaired because the outside walls are considered "common elements"

  3. its possible, but if your neighbor had stains in her bthrm it maybe something else.

is there a unit on the 3rd flr.? if so ck that bthrm for leaks.i think your talking about the vent stack,i dont think enough could get through it to cause a leak,ck around with the other neighbors, bet youll find a tub ran over, toliet ran over or leaking, water does follow the path of the least resistance

  4. sounds like it could be coming down a Vent pipe thru the roof. Yes it is possible.

  5. yes, I've tracked roof leaks for hundreds of feet in warehouses
