Question:

Water or Little Swimmers pants for older non potty trained disabled children.

I have a disabled son who is older and not potty trained yet. The problem is that he loves the water, but, the little swimmers that I believe are made by Huggies are only designed for children under a certain weight, and my son exceeds this weight.Of course the diaper or Pull Up would swell and come apart in the water which would lead to unsanitary conditions for others in the pool. What suggestions do those of you who are either parents, caretakers, or educators to non potty trained older disabled children have for this situation. ?

Thanks

  1. As a swimming teacher, I want to thank you for asking such a mature question. These things do not just catch accidents so to speak, but they also stop leaking which normal swimming costumes will not do. Normal bathers or pants of any kind may hold in things, but matter will still be able to be released which in these types of things cannot happen.

No other type of diaper of pull up should ever be worn in water as they will swell, and anything in them will be totally lost. They are better off in normal pants or swimming costumes, than in standard diapers, as less will be able to get into the water.

  2. maybe pullups with rubber type pants over it. then you can put his trunks over them and he will look like a big boy so there is less embarassment. Good luck

  3. There are swim diapers for older children and adults.  See:

or google "swim diapers special needs"

Bear in mind that swim diapers just contain the stuff.  They don't have to be disposable; it's just a convenience if they are!

  4. How old is your son?
