  1. Hi, glad to know that you're developing a love for water polo...personally, I think it's an amazing sport and keeps you in shape like no other sport can.

First off, no you can't wear goggles but contacts should be fine. Goggles will increase the risk of injury, in the case that you block a shot with your face (which, in your career, you most likely will at some point).

Basically to train, get a watch or a clock and spend about 15-20 minutes training legs straight. Consider going on for 45 seconds, off for 15 on each round. First few rounds start slow, just eggbeater with your hands out of the water. Start increasing to getting your entire arms straight up out of the water and continue eggbeater, making sure your shoulders can get out of the water with just your legs. That's basically some of the basic leg strength training. If you want to mix it up a bit, do continuous vertical jumps with both legs and arms for the entire 45 seconds or longer, trying to get your arms extended all the way up each time as high as possible. You could also tread water with your arms above your head and grab the opposite elbow.

If you have weights, use them. Start out light though. Go for 1-2 minutes at a time holding the weight above your head while treading water.

Finally, practice lunging up and to the sides, like you're reaching the high corners of the goal. That'll get you prepared for the incredibly accurate high-corner shots.

And finally, just play with other people, have them shoot on you. Keep your hands close to the surface, arch your back, and snap it when you jump. Hopefully you'll block everything :]

    Good Luck
